The Association runs 5 competitions for golfers whose home Club is in the South Area. It also runs 2 competitions for junior golfers.

SOUTH OF SCOTLAND CHAMPIONSHIP is a 36 hole open amateur scratch competition for competitors with a handicap of 8 or less. Played at Powfoot, Southerness and Stranraer in rotation.

SOUTH OF SCOTLAND MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP – the top 16 players in the South of Scotland Championship qualify.

SOUTH OF SCOTLAND SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP is an 18 hole scratch competition for gentlemen golfers over 55. A handicaps competition, maximum 24,  is run concurrently with categories of 55 & over and 65 and over.

THE SHAMASH TROPHY is a 36 hole open amateur scratch competition for competitors with a handicap of 8 or less.

THE GILLESPIE CLASSIC is an 18 hole open amateur Four Ball Better Ball stableford competition for Ladies and Gentlemen. The handicap limits are 30 for Ladies and 24 for Gentlemen. Juniors with a handicap of 12 or better may play. All players will receive ¾ of their handicap.

General Conditions of Play

The competition will be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and in accordance with the Local Rules of the above Club.

In the event of a tie a 3 hole play off will take place immediately after the completion of play. Other ties will be decided on the last 18 holes etc.

On all other matters relating to the competition the decision of the competition committee shall be final.
