1 Conditions of Play

a) A Junior Order of Merit, to encourage players whose home Club is in the South Area to compete in the local competitions, South and County Championships and to find the most consistent junior golfers in the South of Scotland, will be collated annually.

b) The Order of Merit shall take place during a calendar year, where players shall receive points for each top five finish that they achieve in each category in the counting events.

c) Players may gain points in more than one category in each competition. A minimum of 15 competitors is required in any competition to qualify for inclusion in the Order of Merit competition

d) There shall be 4 separate categories namely:-

e) Points shall be awarded in each category as follows:-

Winner:       50 points

Runner-up    40 points

3rd              30 points

4th              20 points

5th              10 points

f) If scores are equal in strokeplay or stableford competitions any positions, other than first place, involving ties will see accumulative points divided between the players in that tied position

g) If scores are tied for first place the winner shall be the player with the better inward half, last 6 holes, etc.

h) In stableford competitions points will only be awarded in Boys Under 18 Handicap and Girls Under 18 handicap categories. There will be no points awarded in Scratch categories.

i) In the South Matchplay Championship points will be awarded as follows:-

Winner          50 points

Runner-up     40 points

Semi-finalist  25 points each

j) The winner for the year in each category shall be the player who amasses the most points. The winner of the Under 18 Scratch category will qualify for automatic selection for the following year’s Scottish Boys Area Team Championship if eligible and has a handicap of 5 or under..

k) The winner in each category shall receive a trophy and a monetary voucher issued by the Scottish Golf Union and the voucher must be used within the stipulated time and in accordance with the current conditions. In the event of a tie all those with the leading points total will receive a voucher of equal amount.

l) The competition shall be under the charge of a Member of the Executive of the South of Scotland Golfers’ Association to whom all disputes will be referred and whose decision shall be final. In certain circumstances, the Executive reserves the right to appoint authorised persons to act on their behalf to carry out specific duties.

 2.       Qualification

a) To be eligible to enter, a player must be of the correct gender and under the  age limit of each category on the 1 January of that year, a Member, whose home Golf Club is affiliated to the South of Scotland Golfers’ Association, and of Amateur Status as defined by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club.

 b) All players must be in possession of a handicap under the current CONGU SSS & Handicapping Scheme.
