South of Scotland Coaching Convenor's Progamme

Objective:- To identify Junior Golfer's from the South of Scotland, assist in their development through a Professional Pathway into a structure required to play at Area level and beyond.

Organisation:-The Coaching Programme comes together with assistance from various personnel involved at County level in Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire.

Communication:-The Coaching Convener's from Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire are requested to nominate boys to the South of Scotland Coaching Convener for assessments.

Assessments:-The nominated boys are invited to an ID day or days depending on the numbers nominated, these sessions will consist of boys being assessed in their age groups by a PGA Professional.

Selection:-The selected players in each age group, ranging from Under 16s to Under 14s are then personally contacted and offered Coaching with a PGA Professional.

Programme:-The selected boys will receive Coaching on a one to one basis, the Programme delivered by the PGA Professionals consists of, technical development, pre-shot routine, long game, short game, bunker play, shot making, putting, skill tests, course management, psychological and health topics, behavioural attitudes on and off the course.

Delivery:-All the Coaching will take place throughout the Autumn and Winter periods, allowing any swing alterations to be made out with the playing season.

Academy:-Squad training days are carried out during the closed season.

Team trials take place in the early part of the season with the Junior Team Manager present.

Both the training days and the trials are held at the South of Scotland Academy at Brighouse Bay Golf Club.

Monitoring:-Monitoring of the Squad players is continually carried out throughout the year.

Future Talent:-In many cases new talent is uncovered at our Tournaments held throughout the season, when this occurs the Identified boys are requested to attend one of our ID days.
